Does Heating Honey Destroy Its Benefits?
Many people add honey to hot tea without realizing how heat affects natural enzymes, antioxidants, and antibacterial properties.
Raw honey contains enzymes and bioactive compounds that are sensitive to high heat. Prolonged boiling can reduce some of those natural properties.
Stirring honey into warm (not boiling) water or tea that has cooled slightly is a practical everyday approach. Avoid cooking honey on a direct flame for long periods.
Commercial “processed” honey is often heated and finely filtered for shelf look. That can improve clarity but may strip character and some nutrition compared with raw honey.
If your goal is taste plus natural enzymes, choose raw unheated honey and add it after cooking. Store it at room temperature away from direct sunlight.
